Interiors of 2024
As we approach the new year, it’s only natural for me to start thinking heavily (more than I already do) about design and the trends that come along with it. While trends most definitely come and go, I think there is something so comforting about traditional, timeless design and I anticipate this sort of shift in 2024. I can sense people leaning much more into classic pieces that will last, design that grows over time and feels lived in, and most importantly functionality & sustainability. Here are a few trends I can see emerging, or continuing, in the coming year that embrace the timeless aesthetic.
Patterned Floors
Starting off with one my favorite kitchens in the beautiful home of @chalkwhitearrow. These checkerboard painted wood floors feel so timeless to me and more often then not seem like they’ve been in a home for ages. Getting creative with color and texture can add character and uniqueness to a space!
Deep, Warm Reds
In 2022, one of my biggest design predictions for the coming year was that red hues would be brought back into homes, and this trend did not disappoint. Now, as we head into another new year, I’m happy to see a continuation of burgundy and plum tones being incorporated into homes. It truly adds so much warmth and elegance
Brutalism vs Classicalism
Think dark natural wood, sharp lines and raw simplicity paired with traditional elegance, richness and character. The organic feeling and texture that brutalism often brings along with the coziness of classic, timeless design is really beginning to make its appearance in homes. By combing the two, a space is able turn into a familiar yet unique environment
Accumulated Simplicity
This little vignette makes my heart so so happy. It can be overwhelming to design a space completely from scratch, but something that I think is often forgotten is that nothing needs to be done right away and it’s okay for a room to grow and evolve over time, aka don’t overthink it. I’m really happy to see this becoming a trend and I hope more and more people adopt this mentality. Our spaces should be allowed to change and grow with us!
Monochromatic Spaces
Monochromatic rooms have been quite a trend in last couple of years, and I hope it doesn’t go anywhere anytime soon. The stunningly eclectic home of Lucy Williams is a perfect example of this trend that stays far away from basic and really leans into timeless and effortless design
Wallpaper & Patterns
Perhaps one of my favorite trends in the recent years: wallpaper and the mixing of patterns & textures. While wallpaper can definitely feel trendy at times, I don’t think it has to be when done the right way. Investing in a print you really really love, one that maybe has a more muted pattern or tones, is a great place to start. When everything has a different fabric, pattern, etc, it feels like it’s been developed and loved over time
Maximalism
Building off of the wallpaper and patterns trend, I can sense maximalism making an appearance, or resurgence, as we enter the new year. I think it’s an easy misconception that maximalism means an overabundance of things within a home, but it doesn’t need to be. Really what it means is bringing unique style and individuality to the forefront in a big way. Mixing intricate patterns, layering materials and embracing the collection of found pieces within a home is the best way to create a space that showcases personality
